Dua in the Morning

Dua in the morning

Starting your day with the remembrance of Allah is a powerful practice that brings peace, protection, and blessings into your life. The importance of Dua in the morning has been emphasized in the Sunnah of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Morning supplications, or dua, are a means of seeking Allah’s guidance and blessings for the day ahead, and they provide spiritual nourishment for the soul.

The Sunnah of Morning Duas

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) taught us various dua in the morning as part of his blessed Sunnah. One of the notable examples is the hadith in which the Prophet said: “O Allah, bless my nation in their early morning.” It was his habit to stay in the mosque after the Fajr prayer, engaging in dhikr (remembrance of Allah) and supplication until the sun had risen.

Key Morning Supplications

There are several essential dua in the morning that one can recite, as taught by the Prophet (peace be upon him), each with immense spiritual significance.

  1. Ayat al-Kursi
“Allah! There is no god but He, the Living, the Sustainer. Neither slumber nor sleep overtakes Him. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what is behind them, and they do not encompass anything of His knowledge except what He wills. His throne extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. He is the Most High, the Great.” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:255)
  2. Surah Al-Ikhlas
“Say: He is Allah, the One and Only; Allah, the Eternal, Absolute; He begets not, nor is He begotten; And there is none comparable to Him.” (Recite three times)
  3. Surah Al-Falaq
“Say: I seek refuge with the Lord of the Dawn, from the evil of what He has created, from the evil of darkness when it is intense, from the evil of those who practice witchcraft when they blow in the knots, and from the evil of the envious when they envy.” (Recite three times)
  4. Surah An-Naas
“Say: I seek refuge with the Lord and Cherisher of Mankind, the King of Mankind, the God of Mankind, from the evil of the whisperer who withdraws, who whispers in the hearts of mankind, among jinn and among men.” (Recite three times)

Istighfar and Seeking Forgiveness

After completing the dua in the morning, the Prophet (peace be upon him) encouraged the repetition of istighfar (seeking forgiveness) three times, followed by a special supplication:
“O Allah, You are Peace, and from You comes peace. Blessed are You, O Possessor of Glory and Honor.”

This specific dua was part of the morning routine of the Prophet (peace be upon him), showing the emphasis on starting the day with gratitude and asking for forgiveness.

Other Morning Duas from the Sunnah

The Sunnah contains various other dua in the morning, which carry profound meanings. These include:

  • “We have entered upon the natural disposition of Islam, the statement of sincere faith, the religion of our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and the way of our forefather Abraham, who was a Muslim and was not among the polytheists.”
  • “In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing on earth or in the heavens can harm, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.” (Recite three times)
  • “SubhanAllah wa bihamdihi.” (Glorified is Allah and praised is He; recited 100 times)
  • “O Allah, we have entered the morning by Your grace, and we enter the evening by Your grace, by Your grace we live, and by Your grace we die, and to You is the return.”
  • “I am pleased with Allah as my Lord, with Islam as my religion, and with Muhammad as my Prophet.”
Whoever says this will be granted Paradise.
  • “O Allah, Knower of the unseen and the seen, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Lord and Sovereign of everything, I testify that there is no god except You. I seek refuge in You from the evil of my own self and from the evil of Satan and his polytheism.”
  • “O Allah, whatever blessing has come to me or any of Your creation this morning, it is from You alone, without partner. To You belongs all praise, and to You belongs all thanks.”
The one who says this has fulfilled the gratitude for his day.

The Power of Morning Duas

Reciting these dua in the morning ensures protection and divine support for the rest of the day. They are a means of connecting with Allah, seeking His mercy, and placing trust in His divine will. One of the most beautiful dua to recite in the morning is:
“Hasbiya Allahu la ilaha illa huwa, ‘alayhi tawakkaltu, wa huwa rabbul ‘arshil ‘azim.” (Allah is sufficient for me; there is no deity except Him. I have placed my trust in Him, and He is the Lord of the Mighty Throne.)
This is to be recited seven times, and Allah will take care of all concerns and worries.

Conclusion

Starting your day with dua in the morning is a practice filled with blessings. These supplications protect, guide, and uplift the soul. By incorporating the recitations taught by the Prophet (peace be upon him), including Ayat al-Kursi, Surah Al-Ikhlas, Surah Al-Falaq, and Surah An-Naas, as well as other morning adhkar, you strengthen your relationship with Allah. May we all be granted the ability to maintain this beautiful Sunnah every morning, and may Allah shower us with His endless mercy and protection throughout the day.
